Anver Dole was unanimously re-elected President of the Institute of Management of Sri Lanka (IMSL), at its AGM held recently. A well known and well respected personality in management circles, Anver Dole has addressed fora in all parts of the globe, and recently addressed a petrochemical conclave in New Delhi, on an invitation extended to him by an Indian oil company. Anver currently serves on the Council of the Asian Association of Management Organisations (AAMO), headquartered in Macau, which is comprised of 19 national management organisations (NMO’s) in the Asia Pacific region. IMSL is the NMO representing Sri Lanka in AAMO. The IMSL is the successor to the Sri Lanka Management Association which was inaugurated on 5 May 1978 with the late legendary figure Mallory Wijesinghe as the President. This year, Anver Dole proposes to launch the IMSL Management Capability Index (MCI), the first of its kind in Sri Lanka. The MCI is a methodology to establish the current level of management capability in organisations in Sri Lanka and to identify where improvement in management capability would lift overall management capability and thus lift the organisation and Sri Lanka’s performance. Currently the MCI is used by the National Management Organisations (NMO’s) of New Zealand, Malaysia, Australia, Singapore and India, the NMO’s represented in AAMO. The introduction of the MCI to Sri Lanka will assist international comparison and benchmarking with other NMO’s, thus identifying how to lift Sri Lanka’s management and organisation performance to world class. Anver Dole’s efforts enabled two nominees from Sri Lanka to participate in the AAMO “Young Manager’s Program” funded by the Macau Institute of Management, last year. This year too, the IMSL will shortly call for applications from young Managers under the age of 35, to follow the program in Macau and Mainland China, which will include visits to a few world-class organisations. He was the first individual from the private sector to be elected President of the Institute of Chemistry, and was President of the Chemical Sciences Section of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS). He was for many years the President of the Sri Lanka Branch of the Institute of Management Services, UK and holds the Fellowship of several professional organisations. He is also the incumbent President of the Plastics and Rubber Institute of Sri Lanka (PRISL) and presently serves as Vice Chairman of The Management Club – Kalutara (TMC – Kalutara). Anver Dole has received international recognition for his pioneering work in the rehabilitation of the disabled, especially the visually impaired, spanning a period of almost three decades. The ILO sponsored him to study the disability network in the UK and arranged for him to address employer groups in Cambodia and Thailand. He has served as the resource person from Asia at a roundtable conference at the World Bank in Washington, to discuss international disability issues. An active social worker, he is a Past District Governor and Past Multiple Council Chairman of Lions Clubs International, an active Master Mason and a past Worshipful Master in Freemasonry.
