Design Experience Day is a freely accessible open house aiming to create awareness of design careers and opportunities for youth and parents. ‘Design’ is now highly sought after by industries in Sri Lanka and the rest of the world. This is due to the potential that design holds to add value, enhance or even completely reinvent a business. Power industries like hospitality and tourism rely on interior designers and product design for spaces, furniture, cutlery, crockery etc. that expresses their own identity through clever design.

Most large-scale exports like tea and cinnamon, whose clienteles appreciate good design, look to graphic designers for strong logos, brand identities and packaging. Similarly, businesses turn to fashion designers for corporate uniforms that are in line with their brand image while Sri Lanka’s massive apparel industry is also powered by fashion designers who come up with new product innovations.

These are just a few examples from the many industries that consult or employ full time designers for better business. Therefore, ‘design’ is now among the most in-demand career paths offered by the biggest local industries. To shed light on the various types of design careers presented by the local industries and the opportunities in them, AOD is hosting ‘Design Experience Day’. The event includes a free line-up of exhibitions, video screenings, talks and workshops. The events are designed not only to provide information, but also to give a first-hand experience of studying and working as a designer.

AOD is currently one of the most trusted authorities for design in the country along with its partner Northumbria University UK officially recognised by the University Grants Commission Sri Lanka. AOD presents complete UK design degrees with Northumbria University. Northumbria’s design degrees in Fashion, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion Marketing and Design Studies as well as Motion Graphics and Animation Design are now available at AOD in a 100% internal and complete manner.

AOD doesn’t stop by offering these degrees; AOD’s active job placement centre works closely with Sri Lanka’s business world and places all its students in fantastic careers right after graduation. The trust and collaborative relationship maintained between AOD and the business world has allowed AOD to maintain a 100% employment rate for its graduates.
