Richard Pieris PLC launched the first-ever air purifying-smoke free Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) bulb under the brand name ‘Arpilight’ to the market recently. Arpilight CFL bulb contains a specially designed anion (negative ion) generator which cleans and purifies the air in its surrounding area.

The anion generator produces millions of negatives ions and these anions disintegrate many harmful gases such as formaldehyde, ammonia, methylbenzene and common day to day smoke that are hazardous if inhaled in large quantities.

The anions generated with oxygen molecules have an effect on killing the germs, fungus and other microscopic living agents that float in the air. Anion combines with the dust particles in the thin air and increases their weight so that the particles will naturally fall into ground level.

This also reduces the effect of static electricity that is produced by television, computers and electrical equipment as well. Research has proved that the toxic chemicals found in likely to cause cancer than outdoor air. The poor air quality has the effect of increasing the risk of developing many illnesses including bad skin conditions, nervous system damage, cancer, asthma, brain damage, etc.

Arpico recently conducted a training program for its sales force on the above product and Business Development Manager of the Hardware Sector Rohana Neelagolla explained: “it has been researched and proved that the negative ion (anion) levels in the atmosphere is different from place to place. For example anion level near forests and waterfalls are between 100,000 to 500,000 per square centimetre. Likewise it’s about 50,000 to 100,000 near beaches and mountains and 5,000 to 50,000 in suburbs and country side.

“When it comes to indoors the anion levels are less than 5,000 per square centimetre, where air purification is done very slowly, resulting increasing the percentage of unwanted and harmful particles in the air. We are certain that we can help the Sri Lankans to improve their health conditions by using this product. The power consumption of the anion generator installed in the CFL is insignificant and the positive effects are much greater.”

According to Neelagolla, the Arpilight can be used in all indoor areas especially in the kitchens, restaurants, pubs, underground spaces, factories and plants and hospitals where a large number of people gather.
