Asanga Abeyagoonasekera, Executive Director of the Kadirgamar Institute and a Young Global leader for the World Economic Forum, was invited for the World Economic Forum Special Meeting on ‘Unlocking Resources for Regional Development’ in Istanbul, Turkey on 28-29 September.
Bringing 500 political, business and thought leaders for the meeting from MENA Eurasia, Asia and Europe, the meeting was structured on four interrelated tracks: infrastructure as a platform for growth; shifting energy dynamics; building entrepreneurial and inclusive economies; and future of the region and Turkey’s forthcoming G20 Chairmanship.
The keynote address was delivered by President of Turkey Erdogan, who said: “A few countries can’t decide the future of all nations at the UN Security Council and this has to change.”
He also said terrorism was not regional, it was global and it threatened world peace and thus all countries needed to fight terrorism together. Abeyagoonasekera was the only Sri Lankan participant at the conference.
