Ashan promoted as CEO at Laugfs Gas

Laugfs Gas Plc yesterday announced that U.K. Ashan T. De Silva has been promoted as the Chief Executive Officer with effect from 30 May 2013. De Silva is a structural engineer by profession and was the Group Project Manager at Laugfs Gas prior to the promotion.

Previously, the CEO post was held by Chairman W.K.H. Wegapitiya. Following the new appointment, Wegapitiya will continue as Chairman and Group CEO of Laugfs Gas and its subsidiaries.

De Silva had an illustrious career at the Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA from which he graduated as a structural engineer and was a recipient of several honours and awards. He was employed by Broadlands Financial Group LLC, Villanova, Pennsylvania as a project manager just after graduation and joined a multinational organisation involved in engineering and construction as a design engineer after he returned to the country.

After joining Laugfs Gas, De Silva was involved in all its activities in the downstream LPG landscape, encompassing import, storage, filling, plant and plant technology, marketing, distribution, sales, health safety and environment. He has had fairly extensive experience in the LPG downstream industry and has formulated a very ambitious and elaborate business plan for its growth for the next three years.
