Auto & Metal Crafts Ltd., was established 50 years ago by its founder A.K. Ghandy, an Engineering graduate, who ventured out on his own with great determination, to establish his own business. He initially started off by repairing vehicles and later diversified into various other lines involving metal craft. Business started to develop as he kept getting repeated orders from the hotel sector. The legacy began with the establishment of a small outlet that specialised in Brass, Stainless Steel, GI, Electroplating and Etching. Gradually the company expanded its services to Neon Signage, Aluminium Works, Mineral Fibre, Gypsum and Plaster Board Ceilings, Poly Carbonate Canopies and Sky Lights and Aluminium Composite Panels for wall cladding. A sophisticated, well equipped workshop manned by skilled and experienced technicians and qualified professionals is committed to a high quality standard in keeping with the requirements of the industry. Auto & Metal Crafts caters to mega projects such as high-risers and multi apartment buildings and hotel complexes to homes, restaurants, schools and commercial showrooms. Among its prestigious clients are many of the largest banks, hotels, Government institutions, embassies, hospitals and commercial establishments in Sri Lanka. The exceptionally high quality of service with prompt execution and competitive pricing enabled the business to expand at a rapid pace. As demand kept growing more employees were recruited and trained in various aspects of metal crafts. While providing exemplary service to the State Engineering Corporation, the company also expanded its services by establishing links with mega institutions in the construction sector such as Maga Engineering and Sanken Constructions. The Sri Lanka Customs House Project which was awarded by Maga Engineering, and is probably the largest project ever handled in Sri Lanka, increased the goodwill of the company by 100%. Ghandy is very particular about the welfare and interests of his employees and their families and also assists low income families by providing employment to their children after leaving school. The children are well trained in various aspects of metal craft and then absorbed into the permanent staff of the company. Auto and Metal Crafts was presented with the prestigious Swarnadeepa Award 2012 by Nidhas Lanka Mass Communications Association in consideration of company growth, efficiency, business ethics and staff welfare.  The award was presented to Ghandy by the Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province W.J.M. Lokubandara at an impressive award ceremony held in January 2013.
