The All Island Best Speaker (AIBS) 2013 speech contest will be held this Sunday at 4.45 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom, Galadari. The event is being organised and presented for the 24th time by the Colombo Toastmasters Club. Recently, the Gold Sponsor of the event, the Bartleet Group, presented its sponsorship to the Colombo Toastmasters Club. Bartleet Group Chairman Eraj Wijesinghe observed: “The people of our country possess tremendous potential to be successful achievers. It is lack of effective communication skills that hold some back. This contest celebrates effective oral communication, thus it becomes a beacon of hope to those who aspire to enhance their communication skills to join the Toastmasters movement and better themselves, and thereby the country. We are proud to have been a part of this transformation process for the past 24 years.” Speaking at the occasion, The Colombo Toastmasters Club Immediate Past President Nadeeka Jayathilaka explained: “AIBS not only puts on stage some of the top communicators in Sir Lana, it also highlights how Toastmasters builds self-confidence and personal growth in contestants through the speech contest process and the public speaking workshop held free of charge for all contestants. The position that AIBS enjoys in the country’s social calendar is well deserved: over the past 24 years we have been in the business of producing wholesome, articulate and valuable men and women for our country’s progress.” AIBS 2013 Chairman Yukthi Gunasekera commented: “The ability to communicate effectively in English is a critical skill to achieve personal success in the modern world. AIBS develops this skill set in the people who decide to take part in this contest. Thus, The Colombo Toastmasters Club is proud to contribute to Sir Lana’s forward march by contributing to the development of English language skills of our citizens.” AIBS 2013 will take place at the Grand Ballroom, Galadari Hotel, Colombo at 4.45 p.m. on Sunday, 14 July 2013.
