BASF Lanka was recognised as an outstanding contributor in the Chemicals and Pharmaceutical category at the National Green Merit Award.
Organised by the Central Environment Authority, Ministry of Environment for the second consecutive year, the National Green Merit Award recognises industries and service sector organisations demonstrating excellence in environmental performance.
This year a total of 49 awards, covering 16 categories ranging from textiles, food processing to waste recycling and hotel and hospitality industries were presented at the ceremony.
In the Chemicals and Pharmaceutical category, BASF Lanka was rewarded for its outstanding contribution in maintaining a cleaner and better environment through pollution control, waste and resources management, cleaner production processes and energy efficient production.
Nalin Wattegama, Manager, Warehousing, accepted the award on behalf of BASF Lanka from B.M.U.D. Basanayake, Secretary, Ministry of Environment at the ceremony, witnessing presence of luminaries including President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa, former CEA Chairman, Ministry of Mass Media and Information Secretary, provincial politicians, environmental officials and representatives from public and private enterprises.
Sharing his views on this milestone achieved, I.S. Ragavan, Managing Director of BASF Lanka Ltd., said, “Sustainability is an integral part of our business operations. BASF Lanka has also been a winner of Sri Lanka’s prestigious National Safety Awards for 10 consecutive years, since 2001. This record reflects BASF’s leadership in implementing safety rules, procedures while monitoring and improving safety excellence at its sites and workplaces through the years. In 2011, BASF Lanka was presented the Silver Award under the ‘Hazardous Waste Management’ Category and Excellence Award in 2012 at the Geo Responsibility Awards.
