‘India INVESTREDE 2014,’ a three-day exposition and buyer-seller meet, was inaugurated at the BMICH yesterday by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
The event was organised by the India Chamber of Commerce and Industries and the Government of India with the support of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka. ITD AGM (Mktg) K. Revathi, Rashtriya Isapat of Nigam Ltd., Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Y.K Sinha also participated at the inauguration session. Parallel to the exhibition, the Indian Chamber of Commerce is organising a three-day conference and buyer-seller meeting on ‘Investment Opportunities in the Construction Sector of Sri Lanka,’ to be held today, 20 May, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the BMICH.
The focus sector of this program will be ‘Realty Construction and Construction Materials’. More than 50 exhibitors from India will take part in this exposition along with select exhibitors from Sri Lanka.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, National Chamber of Commerce President Sunil G. Wijesinha stated: “After the war period we are facing the challenge of infrastructure growth in Sri Lanka. Today Colombo is facing rapid change, compared to other countries, so this exhibition will be a valuable stage for firms in the areas of infrastructure, construction, urban infrastructure and building materials. It would also be a good opportunity to establish business cooperation between Sri Lanka and India.”
