Bata Shoe Company of Ceylon Ltd. was incorporated on 9 June 1950 at Grand Pass, Colombo in a small warehouse with 53 employees. Bata’s initial representation in Sri Lanka was only in the city of Colombo with retail operations commencing in 1951 from one outlet in the main street – Colombo 2. In the same year, the manufacturing was shifted to Ratmalana, the present location. In 2016, Bata’s 66th year anniversary of serving the nation was proudly celebrated.
