Amongst many beauty aspirations of the modern woman, beautiful, strong and healthy hair tops the list. It is considered to be a feature that enhances beauty and speaks volumes about a lady’s personality and lifestyle. In this backdrop one would find many ladies patronising salons, seeking advice on maintaining their beauty and through this enhancing their confidence as they venture out into society. To be a good hairdresser, one would need to master the basic techniques of hair cutting, and learn these skills to perfection. Whether it be a straight cut, short cut, fringe, layers or a particular style, it is important for a beautician to keep up with contemporary techniques in order to satisfy their client and forge ahead in the industry. Especially in Sri Lanka where the rising expectation is to maintain your salon to the highest of standards, follow stipulated guidelines and deliver the best to customers, a need to educate, strengthen and train beauticians has surfaced. Taking up the responsibility of adding more value to skilled beauticians, Biona a leading brand in the health and beauty arena, together with the National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) under the Ministry of Industry of Commerce, conducted a beauticians training program by renowned beauticianHasini Gunasekara. The workshop in Galle was the third in a series of seminarsconducted for beauticiansand salon owners who have mostly taken on beauty culture as means of self employment. The training program consisted of two segments, one on entrepreneurship skills for salon owners and the other, technical skills on hair cutting. As part of their vision in driving entrepreneurship in Sri Lanka and empowering professionals to take on new challenges, Biona recently joined hands with NEDA to take this on as a national project. The brand intends to take this program from town to town in order to educate and elevate these professionals. “One thing I like about Biona is that they are developing the industry. Knowledge and empowermentwill be the key for success,” Gunasekara said. In a fast changing world where women increasingly seek beauty through healthy living, the use of multivitamins and food supplements are seen to be an increasingly popular choice.
