A new factory by Norwood Fashion Ltd was opened in Hatton and will impact very favorably in the economy of that area.
This new BOI enterprise has created 550 direct employment opportunities for the local people and another 400 indirect employment opportunities have also been created.
The total value of this investment is US$ 750,000. The company will produce underwear for men and children for the British and European markets. The products will be made for well-known brands such as George and Trimark of the UK and Lidel of Germany.
The Factory was formally opened by Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena Minister of Investment Promotion who stated that “Sri Lanka’s apparel industry has now emerged to become one of the leading export earners of the country bringing in about US$ 5 billion in export earnings. It is an industry that has now a very high reputation for the quality of its products and also for the very high standards of its technology and safety.”
“We can indeed be very proud of the apparel industry which can be an example to other industries in the future. Recently there have been some statements that Sri Lanka’s IT industry could become in the future a leading export earner on the same lines as the apparel industry,” he added.
