BOI promotes Sri Lanka in Bangkok

Chairman of BOI Dr. Lakshman Jayaweera briefed leading Thai businessmen of the Federation of Thai Industries at the Investment Promotion Seminar held at Sirikit Convention Hall in Bangkok. This event was organised by Nopporn Adchariyavanich, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka who was supported by General Shantha Kottegoda, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand.  The Chairman was assisted by Manoj Casseer, Assistant Director (Investment) of the BOI. The Chairman of BOI addressed the Federation of Thai Industries making a presentation titled ‘Opportunities to Invest in Sri Lanka’ to the assembled Thai businessmen and investors. Currently there are five Thai enterprises in Sri Lanka that operate under the BOI regime, representing a total investment of $ 30 million and employing approximately 1,000 Sri Lankan workers.  The enterprises are engaged in the manufacture of embroidery lace, of synthetic sapphires and will soon be joined by two 5-star hotels and an enterprise engaged in harvest management of rubber and other crops. The Thai businessmen present led by Arin Jira, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries expressed interest in potential investment in cosmetic manufacturing, fisheries, agricultural business and department stores. This mission will lead to organising the visit of an important Thai business delegation to Sri Lanka in the course of 2014.
