BOI signs agreement for Maldivian Higher Education Institute

The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka signed an agreement with Villa Education Services Lanka Ltd which is a Maldivian Investment for a project to set up Higher Education Institutes in Sri Lanka. BOI Chairman Dr. Lakshman Jayaweera signed the agreement on behalf of the BOI while Villa College Rector/Villa Educational Services Lanka Limited Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ahmed Anwar signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldivian company. Villa College is the first private higher education institution recognised by the Government of Maldives. Since its inception, it has become a hallmark for quality, accessibility and affordability. The undergraduate and postgraduate programs offered at Villa College represent the nation’s best and are taught by renowned academic staff that are in the forefront in their respective fields. The Villa College Colombo Project aims to internationalise Villa College provision of higher education and to become a regional leader in the provision of higher education. To this end, the project is divided into two major phases.  The first phase of the project would involve establishment of Villa College Campus in Sri Lanka in mid-2014 and commence delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in affiliation with international partners of Villa College. The main areas of teaching under the first phase would comprise of tourism management, international business and intercultural studies, finance and engineering.  The second phase of the project would involve a mega development comprising of the establishment of a fully-fledged University Campus with student accommodation and all modern amenities to facilitate the 21st Century higher education. The second phase of the project will commence in mid-2015.  At the moment Villa College works with a number of international partners, especially from Europe and has been a member of two of the largest higher education quality agencies – international Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) and the Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN)
