The Board of Investment (BOI) this week received its first online application barely 24 hours after the new system was inaugurated by Minister of Investment Promotion Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena. The Minister had formally introduced and launched the new online application system at a briefing attended by the press corps of Sri Lanka the previous day. The application was submitted by an investor in the United Kingdom and is to set up a regional headquarters/consulting company in the oil and gas sector.  The applicant commended the BOI’s online system describing it as “very impressive and certainly very user friendly.” At the launch Minister Abeywardena  said: “This is an important day as online application will definitely contribute to Sri Lanka’s emergence into a much more investment friendly country. Thanks to the introduction of this online system, Sri Lanka now has a global reach. There is a potential for investors from all over the world to initiate investment projects in the country.”
