Boosting Taiwan-Sri Lanka biz ties

Strengthening the economic bonds between Taiwan and Sri Lanka, TAITRA inked a MoU with Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industries of Sri Lanka in Taipei to further Sri Lanka-Taiwan trade in the fields of textile, IT, and machinery. 

The two organisations also held a business forum ‘Collaborate with Taiwan & Sri Lanka – Business Opportunities for Growth’ at the Cinnamon Grand.

FCCISL President Sarath Kahapalarachchi stated: “Sri Lanka’s exports to Taiwan are mainly seafood, tea and garments. Imports from Taiwan to Sri Lanka consist of textile fabric, garment accessories and electronic products. Forums like this will help to increase economic cooperation between the two countries. FCCISL is committed to play an active role in exploring more opportunities for Sri Lankan businessmen.”

TAITRA CEO and President Walter Yeh said they wish to import coconut oil, Ceylon Tea, spices and so on from Sri Lanka and soon all Sri Lankans will be entitled to e-visa, making visits easier.

Taipei World Trade Center Chennai Director Dave Tsai and FCCISL Secretary General Ajith D. Perera made presentations on behalf of Taiwan and Sri Lanka, explaining the trade and investment opportunities.

Taiwanese business delegates had the opportunity of meeting their local counterparts after the forum.

Rekha Sharma of MARS (Marketing Assistance and Research Support), an adviser to TAITRA on market survey for trade and investment, also joined the forum.
