The Brandix Group was the apparel sector’s standard bearer at the 2013 Best Corporate Citizen awards, winning sector and category awards for ‘Environmental Sustainability’ and ‘Environmental Integration’ and adjudged one of Sri Lanka’s 10 best corporate citizens.
Brandix was the only apparel manufacturer and the only privately owned business group in the Top 10 at the Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards presented by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, 26th November.
The trio of prestigious awards presented to Sri Lanka’s single largest apparel exporter at the 10th edition of this respected awards ceremony recognise significant advances in the year ending 31st March 2013 in eco-friendly manufacturing, important environment-related certifications and compliance and overall business performance.
“As a Group that has elevated sustainability and commitment to the planet to defining characteristics, Brandix is delighted to receive two of the most important environment-related accolades at the 2013 Best Corporate Citizen Awards,” the Group’s CEO Ashroff Omar said. “We are also honoured to be adjudged among the ten best corporate citizens of the country, a group that includes a conglomerate, a multinational and some of the leading banks.” The Sector Award for Environmental Sustainability won by Brandix acknowledges a reduction of 10.7 per cent of the Group’s carbon footprint during the year of assessment through initiatives that generated savings of more than 275,000 litres of furnace oil per month, a saving of 92.2 million litres of water for the year, as well as the implementation of a paper-neutral policy and reduction of food waste by 3,800 kgs.
In the Category Awards presented by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the Award for Environmental Integration recognises multiple globally recognised environment-related licences and certifications obtained by the Group’s business units, including LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum and Gold certifications and ISO 50001:2011, ISO 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2004 certifications.
Incorporated in 2002, the US$ 600 million (2012-13) Brandix Group employs more than 44,000 people at 42 manufacturing plants in Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh, and is a benchmark and international award winner for eco-friendly manufacture and commitment to environmental best practice.
