Burhani Enterprises unveils next generation in clinical fever thermometers

Burhani Enterprises, the company that markets the high quality multivitamin “Forceval” from U.K, recently introduced a new kind of thermometer from U.S.A, as a replacement for the conventional glass mercury thermometers.

While the method of use for this new type of thermometer is just like a conventional thermometer NexTemp  provides a non toxic, accurate and convenient alternative to glass mercury thermometers.

NexTemp thermometers come in two types: Disposable / Single-Use and Reusable.

The disposable thermometers are individually wrapped and the Reusable comes in a convenient wallet sized card.

These can be used for both oral and underarm temperature monitoring.

Burhani has also introduced a third type, from the same U.S based company called TraxIt; a wearable underarm thermometer that adheres to the armpit and gives continuous readings for up to 48 hours.

Ideal in cases where continuous temperature monitoring is required or difficult-to-take temperatures exist like infants, aged, post operative patients etc.

The technology behind NexTemp/TraxIt thermometers is also interesting. They employ a revolutionary approach to temperature monitoring that is called Precision Phase Change Technology (PPC).

The thermometers are thin plastic strips of material with an encapsulated matrix of harmless, non-toxic chemical dots at one end. Each dot in the matrix represents a specific temperature. The dots, that are bright green colour at normal room temperature, turn black in sequence when placed in the mouth or underarm.

Each dot turns black when its own specific chemical temperature point is met. The last dot to turn black represents the patient’s actual temperature.

Nextemp/ TraxIT thermometers require no special storage conditions and reset after use within 20-30 seconds.

While Digital thermometers are also an available alternative to the glass mercury type they do come with some disadvantages.

High cost, requiring timely battery changes to avoid inaccurate readings and cross-use between multiple patients resulting in a chance of germ transference are some of them.

On the other hand NexTemp/ TraxIt thermometers don’t share these disadvantages.

They come at a relatively cheap cost, require no maintenance and particularly with reference to the disposable type; employ the philosophy of “Throw Away the Germs”.

The manufacturer; “Medical Indicators” –USA, has specialised in the manufacture of single-use and reusable clinical thermometers since 1988.

Their products are used widely at a number of major clinical institutions. MII’s products are U.S.A- FDA registered Class 1 medical devices and conform the highest of quality standards and requirements.

The products have also been registered and approved by the Cosmetic Devices and Drugs Regulatory Authority (C.D.D.R.A) of Sri Lanka.

The western world did away with glass mercury thermometers a number of years ago due to the high toxicity of mercury.

Now patients and medical institutions in Sri Lanka have also got a feasible alternative to help them follow the safer path.
