Leo Burnett Solutions Inc (LBSI), the Sri Lankan office of the internationally acclaimed advertising agency network Leo Burnett Worldwide, recently held its ‘PlayShop 2’ – a Leo Burnett initiative to build the spirit of the team where team building was the focal point.

The Burnetters were flown to Kandy by air taxi and were shuttled to the Mahaweli Reach Hotel by speedboat, where the 70 plus Burnetters were hosted at this two day team building programme.

LBSI Director – People and Culture Kumudini Gomes said that the ‘PlayShop’ enables the team to overcome differences that would not be touched upon in normal situations.

“We came up with the idea of having a workshop with a difference where we allow everyone to do whatever they want without having to engage in training sessions, etc. The ‘PlayShop’ provides Burnetters an opportunity to interact with fellow Burnetters from other departments and to engage with each other in a relaxing environment.”

“As important as it is that we produce good work, it is also important that we enjoy what we do and are able to build a sense of camaraderie amongst the team. The PlayShop gave our entire team an excellent opportunity to spend time with each other outside the office and to get to know each other better. At Leo Burnett, we place a lot of value on our people. The success of the PlayShop is evident by the stronger bonds that are built within the team,” said LBSI Managing Director Ranil de Silva.

Leo Burnett places its people at the heart of the company, therefore the company has inculcated a culture to understand people as people are the company’s most important assets. Doing great work is critical to the company’s success but of equal importance is that the team enjoys what they are doing.

Leo Burnett around the world and in Sri Lanka is active in developing its people via a variety of training activities conducted locally and within the region. The ‘Playshop’ is an initiative of a different nature.

Speaking on her experience, one Burnetter shared her thoughts on what the ‘PlayShop’ meant to her: “The experience was truly amazing; we had so much fun because we were able to interact with our colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere. This is also learning of a different nature which enables us to do a better job.”
