The Sri Lanka-China Business Council (SLCHBC) facilitated a business meeting with a visiting delegation from China’s Shandong Province on 27 March. This is the third such visit by a Chinese delegation during this month, with visits from the China Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Forum and the Shenyang Province having been completed on 24 and 26 March. The delegation consisted of officials from the Department of Commerce of Shandong Province and their main focus was on project contracts and investment between the two countries. This event was of particular significance because in addition to the Executive Committee of the SLCHBC, members from the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) and the Sri Lanka Exports Development Board (EDB) were in attendance. The event garnered a lot of attention due to the focus and high-profile delegation being featured, as illustrated by the attendance of representatives from top Fortune 500 companies and other important businesses in Sri Lanka. There were presentations done by representatives from a wide range of business areas such as construction, medicine, healthcare and steel production. As with the visits preceding the one by this delegation, there was a Memorandum of Understanding for future cooperation, specifically in project contracts and investment, signed by the Sri-Lanka China Business Council and the Shandong delegation. The Shandong delegation stated in the MoU that it wished to link their websites to the SLCHBC website to facilitate further discussion on key business interests between the two parties.
