Business seminar at China show eyes strengthening bilateral trade

The second edition of the China Products (Colombo Sri Lanka) Exhibition 2016 was inaugurated by the Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen while the ceremonial opening was graced by Deputy Secretary General of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province Li Yiwei, China Council Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee President Lin Tao, Worldex Fiera Milano (Guangzhou) Exhibition Ltd. Managing Director Mr. Wolfgang, CMEC International Exhibition Ltd. Vice General Manager Wu Chupeng, National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka President Thilak Godamanna and WorldEx India Managing Director Rajesh Bhagat. 

Many distinguished guests representing leading trade bodies from Sri Lanka were also present at the opening event.

A business seminar titled ‘Innovative Products from China’ was held during the afternoon session of the first day of the China Products Exhibition in Colombo. CMEC International Exhibition Ltd. managed the seminar sponsored by the Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce in China. There was a great response from the Sri Lankan community with large participation for the session. 

Information about high quality branded Chinese products introduced to the market was shared during the session. It was stressed that not only retail goods but also products of high value such as machinery was marketed as recognised Chinese brands. It was also revealed that China was confidently moving ahead by marketing its own brands.

During these sessions, Wang Yuchen, Deputy Director of the Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce in China, made several comments emphasising the importance of maintaining strong business links between the nations. 

He said that Sri Lanka and China had been close friends even in trade-related matters during the past. “It is a matter of continuing along that path and working toward better long-term associations with Chinese companies for joint ventures, collaborations and import-export trading relations. We believe that events of this nature and the vital business information shared in this manner will greatly help to strengthen our ongoing bilateral relations,” Yuchen added.

The exhibition, which displays more than 120 quality exhibitors from China, is jointly organised by The China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT Guangdong Committee), China National Machinery & Equipment Import & Export Corporation (CMEC), and Worldex Fiera Milano Exhibitions (Guangzhou) Ltd. to which the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) extended its fullest support by joining in as the industry partner of the event.
