Businessman in Kama fiasco granted bail

By Lakmal Sooriyagoda The businessman who was in remand custody for allegedly assaulting a 21-year -old youth at the Kama Colombo nightclub was yesterday released on bail by a Colombo Court. While ordering the suspect to furnish two sureties of Rs. 100,000, Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage further issued an order prohibiting the suspect from entering the Kama club where the alleged incident was taken place. The businessman Ali Asger Shabeer Gulamhussein and two bouncers of the Kama Colombo were arrested by the Colpetty Police for allegedly assaulting the 21-year-old youth within and outside the nightclub on early Saturday morning (6). However, the two bouncers who arrested in connection with incident were ordered to be further remanded till 18 July and they are to be produced before an identification parade. However, Former Attorney General C.R De Silva PC with Shanaka Ranasinghe PC and Nisada Gamage appearing for businessman told Court the allegation levelled against their client was a total fabrication and maintained that they were unfounded allegations.  OIC of the Colpetty Police Chief Inspector Mangala Dehideniya informed Court that the Police had received reports of several other instances where assaults of a similar nature had been carried out by the night club’s security guards on the club’s patrons. President’s Counsel Nalin Ladduwahetty, Counsel Shiraz Noordeen, Amila Dissanayake and Eranda Weliyangegedara appeared for the aggrieved party.
