CA, SEC program to focus on composition and functions of boards of directors

The highly successful Corporate Directors Program by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) and the Securities and Exchange Commission will conduct the third session on 10 July which will focus on corporate governance mandatory and voluntary provisions, corporate social responsibility, sustainability and integrated reporting. The third session will be spearheaded by Asite Talwatte, Managing Partner, Ernst & Young, Sri Lanka and Maldives who will identify the role, composition and functions of the board of directors, while providing an overview of the related corporate governance aspects such as directors remuneration, relations with shareholders, audit committees, independent directors and sustainability reporting. The session will be boosted with a panel discussion featuring Nihal Fonseka, Advisor to the Board of Directors of DFCC Bank and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Brandix Lanka Limited, Suresh Gooneratne, Director of Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC, Sujeewaa Mudalige, Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Sri Lanka and Dinesh Weerakkody, Chairman of Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC. CA Sri Lanka and SEC kicked off the Corporate Directors program on 26 June. It educates directors of listed companies on the important aspects of corporate governance, financial reporting and regulatory aspects, thereby supporting them to effectively manage the affairs of companies for and on behalf of stakeholders. The program is conducted over a period of ten sessions and features some very prominent industry experts who will lead the individual sessions.
