As Sri Lanka gears for an increase in strategic alliance amidst renewed economic growth, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) together with the Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka (IPM Sri Lanka) will focus on how well equipped is Sri Lanka to handle these alliances at a CEO Breakfast Forum on ‘A New Beginning through Strategic Alliances’. The forum on 13 May will feature special guest Prof. Vasanthi Sirinivasan, an associate professor in organisation behaviour and human resource management and chairperson of the Centre for Corporate Governance and Citizenship at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, who will give an overview of the nature of strategic alliances, challenges, and how to ensure the success of these alliances during her presentation. In recent years, the corporate world has witnessed several large-scale mergers and acquisitions and other strategic alliances to manage growth and completion. Yet, several of these inter-organisational collaborations do not achieve the expected results. While the synergies at the strategic level are evident, the realities at the tactical and operational level often tend to weigh down the anticipated success. In a Sri Lankan context, the next decade would be deemed important as Sri Lanka expects an increase in such alliances, and Prof. Sirinivasan will focus on the organisational and people related challenges that impact the success of the strategic alliances during her presentation at the CEO Forum. Prof. Srinivasan was also the ICCR Chair Professor of Corporate Responsibility and Governance at the HHL School of Management, Leipzig, Germany in 2012-2013. Her areas of interest are women in management and Boards, generational diversity, HRM in rapid growth organisations and ethics and HRM in healthcare in India. She holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations from XLRI Jamshedpur, and a Fellow in Management Ph.d equivalent from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
