The country’s unprecedented leader in professional accounting education, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) will power the 2014 Future Minds Expo with a gold sponsorship.
In its capacity as one of the largest tertiary education providers, CA Sri Lanka currently enjoys a mammoth student base of 43,000 aspiring chartered accountants and has been associating closely with Future Minds.
This is the second year, CA Sri Lanka will power the national higher educational and career exhibition with a gold sponsorship.
This year’s Future Minds expo will be held in Colombo from 6 to 8 June at BMICH, followed at the Kandy City Centre from 14 to 15 June and finally at the Galle Town Hall on 6 and 7 September 2014.
CA Sri Lanka President Arjuna Herath disclosed that the Future Minds expo comes at an extremely pertinent juncture. “We recently launched a groundbreaking curriculum which aims to create a new breed of chartered accountants who can partner businesses with financial leadership. I believe the Future Minds exhibition will be an important platform to educate our future professionals on the importance of following a professional qualification which is not only globally recognised but is also far sighted, and which could probably be the best and most sought after qualification for the future business leader.”
He noted that contrary to misconceptions, chartered accountants don’t necessarily have to be from the commerce field. “CA Sri Lanka attracts probably the best and the brightest of students, and contrary to popular beliefs, our student population comprises of students who are from the Advanced Level commerce as well as non-commerce including science fields,” Herath said.
He added that chartered accountants who have qualified from CA Sri Lanka continues to play an significant role in the corporate world as well as in the public sector, with some of the top public office positions including the position of Governor Central Bank and Auditor General being held by members of CA Sri Lanka.
“Around 60% of the top 50 companies listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange have at least one CA Sri Lanka qualified member on their director boards,” Herath added.
CA Sri Lanka Chief Executive Officer Aruna Alwis stressed that apart from its benchmark qualification in chartered accountancy, CA Sri Lanka also offers various other programs including a BSc. in applied accounting, which has been approved by the University Grants Commission, a Master’s Degree from the University of Southern Queensland and several executive diplomas and postgraduate diplomas, all which aim to create a fully-fledged professional who is well versed in their respective fields.
“CA Sri Lanka is the only professional organisation in the country, which offers both a recognised professional qualification as well as a degree in accounting,” Alwis added.
