The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) seized 5,500 litres of coconut oil in Polgasowita following an inspection.

Issuing a press release yesterday, the CAA said that the inspection was launched after it received a consumer complaint.

This stock of coconut oil valued at Rs. 1,500,000 was sealed by the CAA. It had been produced by an oil manufacturing house located in Gampaha.

CAA Chairman Rumy Marzook said that samples of coconut oil had been sent for further analysis and noted that the CAA would take legal action against the oil producers after the analysis report was released.

The inspection was conducted by a group of officers headed by Senior Inspection Officer Pradeep Kalutharaarachchi.

Meanwhile, the CAA also stated that it had destroyed four metric tons of dry chillies found inside a store located in Kiribathgoda on Thursday following an order from the Mahara Magistrate Court.

CAA Gampaha Chief Officer Ranjith Weerawardane and a group of inspection officers found the stock had been imported from India. The Mahara Magistrate Court ordered that fine of Rs. 50,000 be paid by businessman involved in the case.
