CAA takes action against 114 pharmacies

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has filed court cases against 114 pharmacies which have not met expected standards in transactions.

CAA Chairman Rumy Marzook said that the CAA had received 205 complaints against pharmacies from customers within the past four months and the complaints were in relation to selling drugs at a higher price and not mentioning the maximum retail price.

According to the Consumer Affair Authority Act, all medicines and vitamins manufacturers and importers should mention the maximum retail price, batch number, manufactured date, expiry date, manufacturer’s name, importer’s name and the addresses on the cover.

The CAA also pointed out that all pharmacies and cosmetics traders should register their outlets under the Cosmetics, Devices and Drugs Regulatory Authority.

CAA added that all pharmacies should submit a detailed report about the prices of medicines and vitamins with the Cosmetics, Devices and Drugs Regulatory Authority and the CAA.

The CAA Chairman instructed the CAA’s inspection officers to conduct more inspections in this regard.
