The Consumer Affairs Authority, which protects consumer rights by promoting an ethical business community, has decided to implement a program called “Towards the Consumer.”

This initiative was conceived by Consumer Affairs Authority Chairman H. Tillekeratne under the guidance of the Minister of Industry and 02-05Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen.

This program, which will cover the entire country, aims to educate the public on issues faced by consumers and traders as well as the consumer protection regulations. In addition, a mobile complaint service will be launched to bring both parties together to resolve the problem quickly. The initiative will involve the participation of district secretaries, divisional secretaries, all government officials, trade associations and civil groups.

The first program for 2016 will be launched in Kandy in mid-March to coincide with World Consumer Day.
