As part of concluding its preparation and ahead of commencing the exploratory drilling of the Phase 2 Exploration period in the Mannar basin, Cairn Lanka successfully organised a stakeholder workshop in Colombo yesterday.

Senior Government officials representing the Petroleum Resources Development Secretariat (PRDS) and the Marine Environment Protection Authority, the Commander of Sri Lanka Navy along with his and senior officers from the Sri Lanka Air Force graced the occasion and provided key inputs.

Several other members of other relevant Government bodies and ministries were present at the workshop. Dr. Sunil Bharati, Head of Corporate Affairs and Communication of Cairn India and Director, Cairn Lanka, Terence Sundaram, Resident Manager of Cairn Lanka, and other senior officials involved in the exploration and drilling operations briefed the gathering on the timeline and operational procedures of the current and ongoing phase of the project.

The workshop, where Cairn officials and stake holders of the industry exchanged views on exploration and drilling in the Mannar basin, was held at a city hotel in Colombo.

The first phase of the program undertaken by Cairn Lanka resulted in two successive gas and condensate discoveries: the CLPLDorado-91H/1z well and, the CLPL-Barracuda-1G/1 well. Cairn Lanka’s successful drilling program – the first in Sri Lanka in 30 years – established for the first time a working petroleum system in the Mannar basin.
