Cairn India, the largest independent oil and gas producer in India and the parent company of Cairn Lanka, has been accorded the prestigious ‘Superbrand’ status. The company contributes approximately 30% of India’s crude oil production and operates the Mangala field, one of India’s largest onshore oil discoveries. Cairn India was conferred the Superbrand status following an evaluation by the Superbrands Council, an independent body comprising leading advertising, marketing, research and media gurus. As recognition of its achievements, the company is being featured in a special publication and a weekly television series. The special superbrands show will be telecast on ET Now at 1600 hours (Indian Standard time) on 13 July. As part of a tribute to the leading brands in the country, the show will underline and celebrate the brand success of Cairn India, and cover various aspects of the company’s evolution. Over the last two decades of its operations in India, Cairn India has achieved several milestones – including discovery of Mangala in 2004, technological innovations such as building the world’s longest continuously heated and insulated pipeline and deploying enhanced oil recovery in early stage of field life. Cairn India’s various industry initiatives like Global HSE Conference, and youth connect campaigns such as Amazing Champions of Energy (ACE) have made the brand one of the strongest in E&P companies globally. In 2011, Cairn Lanka Private Ltd, a fully-owned subsidiary of Cairn India, discovered natural gas reserves in the very first well it drilled in the western coast of Sri Lanka. The company brought Sri Lanka on to the global oil and gas map, with two successive gas discoveries: the CLPL-Dorado-91H/1z well and, the CLPL-Barracuda-1G/1 well. Cairn Lanka is currently engaged in appraisal planning and commercial discussions with the Sri Lankan Government to monetise the gas resources. Cairn Lanka is actively working with local communities through its CSR programs. Cairn Lanka Limited, a subsidiary of Cairn India, signed a MoU with the Presidential Secretariat, Government of Sri Lanka in 2011 to establish school libraries in 27 rural schools of Moneragala district, Sri Lanka. Implemented in three phases, Cairn has completed Phase I and II of the project and initiated work on the final phase. ‘Superbrand’ started out as a concept in the United Kingdom in 1993 and has grown to be a global invitation – only collective of the most impactful brands that have made an impression on business and society over the decades.
