The Capacity Development Workshop for the office bearers of trade associations in the Hambantota district took place on 13 June at Ussangoda Beach Resort.
Organised by the Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce (HDCC), the workshop event focused on capacity development of 20 existing trade business associations, who each represent around 100 SME members. The key objective of the event was to uplift the conceptual, human and operational skills of the trade association members in the area of leadership and team building skills. Through this exercise, over 2,000 businesses and their families will have the potential to benefit.
The event commenced with a presentation to the group by HDCC Past President and Sector Specialist of Trade Associations covering Management and Administration of Associations Tiler Nadugala. Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation of Association Activities was presented by Tissamaharama Trade Association Past President Predeep Paranagagama.
Labour Department Hambantota Assistant Commissioner Ishanka Wickramanayake and World University Service of Canada (WUSC) Team Leader South Ruwam Fernando attended the event and conducted a special presentation on increased awareness of Labour Laws, Working Environment Management and Employee Welfare and its potential to lead to increased economic benefits for the district.
Attendees included the Association Office Bearers, the HDCC President, Past Presidents and staff. HDCC acknowledges their partnership with WUSC who was the key sponsor for the event.
Apart from the presentations, all joined in with a series of team building activities that included making nets to hoist members into the air and catch them! Great fun was had by all.
