Cargills (Ceylon) PLC recently joined hands with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) powering it with a lead sponsorship for the year 2013. The sponsorship cheque was presented to CA Sri Lanka President Sujeewa Rajapakse by Cargills (Ceylon) PLC Managing Director M. Imtiaz Wahid at the Cargills Head Office in Colombo. Deputy Chairman Cargill (Ceylon) PLC Ranjit Page was also present at this occasion. Established in 1844, Cargills is a leading Sri Lankan retail and FMCG company listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange. Speaking on the sponsorship, Wahid termed the tie up with CA Sri Lanka, which is the country’s national accounting body, as an opportunity to empower youth across the country. “Cargills has touched lives of people in each and every corner of this country and we are serious about our responsibility towards enriching their lives, not only in relation to our core business functions but also by engaging in various empowerment initiatives. Sustainability is part and parcel of our overall business strategy and corporate culture and our tie up with CA Sri Lanka is one such initiative,” Wahid noted. Welcoming Cargills aboard, CA Sri Lanka President Rajapakse emphasised that for over 50 years, CA Sri Lanka has been playing a significant role in uplifting the standard of the accounting profession in the country, while helping thousands of youth from various parts of this country progress in life with a recognised professional qualification. “Our partnership with Cargills is an endorsement of our quest to serve the country and an encouragement for us to keep enhancing our activities for the benefit of our stakeholders,” he said. Rajapakse also added that all conceivable effort will be taken to ensure the upliftment of chartered accountants and future chartered accountants by providing the required facilities and services including knowledge sharing initiatives which are important for their long term professional development.
