Cargills (Ceylon) PLC has once again joined hands with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) as a lead sponsor for 2011.

The sponsorship cheque was recently presented to ICASL President Sujeewa Mudalige by Cargills (Ceylon) PLC Managing Director M. Imtiaz Wahid at the Cargills Head Office in Colombo. Established in 1844, Cargills is a leading Sri Lankan retail and FMCG company which is listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange.

Wahid termed the tie-up with the ICASL, which is the country’s national accounting body, as an opportunity to empower youth all across the country.

“Cargills has touched the lives of people in each and every corner of this country. We are serious about our responsibility towards enriching their lives, not only in relation to our core business functions but also by engaging in various empowerment initiatives. Sustainability is part and parcel of our overall business strategy and corporate culture and our tie-up with ICASL is one such initiative,” he noted.

Welcoming Cargills aboard, Mudalige emphasised that the ICASL as a national body strives towards serving its members, students and all its stakeholders in a manner that surpasses commercial intent.

For over 52 years, ICASL, which is the largest tertiary education establishment in the country outside the university system, with a student base of over 36,000, has been playing a pivotal role in uplifting the standard of the accounting profession in Sri Lanka while lending a helping hand to thousands of children from rural to urban areas from various parts of the country to succeed in their lifelong goals.
