Cargills Food City Shopping Star reaches dizzy pace as shoppers scramble into grand finale

The supermarket industry poineer, Cargills Food City, has raised the bar yet again by being the first retailer to conduct a supermarket sweep for its shoppers with the ‘Cargills Food City Shopping Star” competition. Co-partnered by Unilever Sri Lanka, the sweep is scheduled to run from 4 October to 21 November, culminating with the Grand Finale on 28 November 2013. Deputy General Manager Retail Marketing Sanjeewa Fernando commenting on the promotion said: “At Cargills Food City we conduct our businesses in a manner that directly engages consumers in a truly unique way. Innovation goes hand in hand with our products, services, or promotions, which will be the hallmark of this exciting promotion as well. I take this opportunity to thank all our customers who provide us the inspiration to keep raising our bar thereby supporting us to remain successful.”   Take part and take home all the goods in your trolley Customers who shop for Rs. 750 including three of the six nominated Unilever brands stand a chance to take part in the “Cargills Food City Shopping Star” competition. 200 winners will be selected through a raffle draw and there will be 20 preliminary game shows taking place in key towns Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Jaffna, etc. Participating customers are to run through the aisles and pick whatever they could off the supermarket shelves within a given time. Fernando noted that the excitement of whole promotion reaches a dizzy height when customers race against each other and finally they get to take away whatever they have filled into their trolleys, irrespective of the value.     10 more finalists to be selected 20 selected finalists of the preliminary shows will be competing at the grand finale. Prizes of Rs. 1 million, Rs. 250,000 and Rs. 100,000 will be awarded respectively to the ‘Shopping Star’, 1st and 2nd runner up. Customers also stand a chance to win 5000 instant cash rewards as they shop. Currently in full swing, 10 winners have qualified for the final event with competitions being conducted island-wide in search of the last 10 finalists. The Grand Finale is bound to be a dazzling action-packed event set to be telecasted on a popular television channel.
