CB releases new book ‘An Introduction to Principles of Economics – Part 1’

The Central Bank released its latest educational publication titled ‘An Introduction to Principles of Economics – Part 1’ authored by C.P.A. Karunatilake, Director, Centre for Banking Studies, the training arm of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. He has completed 27 years of service in the Central Bank during which he worked in many departments. Prior to joining the Bank he served as an Assistant Lecturer in Economics in the Department of Economics of the University of Colombo, where he graduated with a First Class in Economics (Special Degree). He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Development from the same university and a Master’s Degree in Economics from the Vanderbilt University, USA. The purpose of writing this book is to supplement the literature available on this subject for beginners, especially in English medium, aiming at a readership of GCE Advance Level student, university students and academics. While the main focus of the book has been the GCE A/L syllabus, each chapter has been extended beyond that scope, so that the university students and other academic and professional aspirants also could benefit. The Central Bank employs various publications and study programs to improve the economic and financial knowledge of the public and this book is another milestone in reaching this objective. The publication will be available for sale in the Central Bank’s Publications sales outlet at Centre for Banking Studies, Rajagiriya, provincial offices of the Central bank and at the CBSL stall of the Colombo International Book Fair at the BMICH.
