Continuing its winning and recognition streak, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce was recently awarded a Global Commerce Excellence Award at a Ceremony in recognition of its contribution and support towards global commerce in Sri Lanka during the past three decades since liberalizing the economy.

Commenting on this achievement Ceylon Chamber of Commerce CEO/Secretary General Harin Malwatte stated, “During its 172 year old history, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has been in the forefront of contributing to business and economic development of the country. Not only during the three decade long war but also prior to that in the past, during the World Wars as well as during the difficult period our country went through during the unrests that adversely affected our economy and business during the 1971 insurgency, 1983 and 1989 riots, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce remained  relevant and effective.”

He further noted that over the years the CCC has carefully worked out the priorities to be in line with the needs of the times and doing the right thing at the right time as required by our country. Malwatte received the award from the Chief Guest at the event, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and in the presence of Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal.

Global Commerce Excellence Award was held for the first time supported by the Export Development Board, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, and the Shippers’ Academy Colombo with guidance and technical assistance from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. The awards were themed ‘recognizing the big and the bold’ and covered the five categories of turnover, employment, national importance, innovation and uniqueness together with support for global commerce.
