Teams from Associated CEAT Ltd., operating under CEAT Kelani Holdings, dominated the first National Business Excellence Summit (NBES) conducted by the National Chamber of Commerce, winning six awards including three Golds, a Silver and two Bronze awards.
Themed ‘Business Excellence for Global Competitiveness,’ the summit dedicated its second day to ‘team excellence’ creating an opportunity for successful projects initiated by Quality Circles and Continuous Improvement (CI) teams of both services and manufacturing sectors to compete.
CEAT won the Gold award for the Best Overall CI team, the Gold award for the Best Kaizen Suggestion, the Gold award in the Poster Competition, the Silver and Bronze awards in the Slogan Competition and the Bronze award in the Kaizen Competition.
“Our Kalutara factory has a strong record of commitment to continuous improvement through employee engagement,” said Raman Rajagopalan, Managing Director/CEO of CEAT Kelani Holdings. “These awards are a fitting endorsement of the success of the company’s initiatives in this sphere and will encourage the teams to strive for even better results in the future.”
He said the factory has tirelessly focused on improving safety at work. As part of the overall program, the company adopted the Japanese 5S concept which has become the backbone of many improvement activities. These efforts were recognised by JASTECA which awarded the company a Taiki Akimoto 5S merit award in 2013.
By the end of 2013, the factory has established 54 Kaizens. These initiatives happened with 100% involvement of all employees, said R.K. Das, General Manager Manufacturing.
