CEAT wins Merit Award at 2013 CNCI Achiever Awards

CEAT Kelani Holdings, Sri Lanka’s leading pneumatic tyre manufacturer, won the Merit Award in the ‘Manufacturing – Extra Large’ category, and was ranked among the Top 10 at the 2013 Achievers Awards presented by the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI).
An acknowledgement of Industrial and Service Excellence, the awards were presented for the 12th time this year, and were based on sales growth, value addition, productivity improvement, employment statistics, corporate social responsibility, research and development and the quality of the manufacturing process.
CEAT Kelani Holdings Managing Director and CEO Raman Rajagopalan accepted the award on behalf of the company at a colourful ceremony at which the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. G.L Peiris was the Chief Guest.
Commenting on this prestigious accolade, Rajagopalan said: “The Extra Large category in which CEAT is included comprises of the biggest and most evolved manufacturing entities in Sri Lanka. We are honoured to be a winner in this eminent group, and are encouraged to strive for further excellence as we contribute to import substitution and generate substantial export earnings for Sri Lanka.” The CNCI initiated the Achievers Awards specifically to recognise operational excellence achieved by enterprises in Sri Lanka’s industrial, manufacturing and services sectors and to encourage them to achieve further heights and international standards. Achiever Awards are presented in the Extra Large, Large, Medium, Small and Micro categories.
A National Business Excellence Award winner in 2010, 2011 and 2012, CEAT – Kelani Holdings is a successful Indo-Sri Lanka joint venture between the RPG Group of India and Kelani Tyre – Sri Lanka. The company operates three manufacturing units manufacturing truck, light truck, radial, motorcycle, three-wheeler and agricultural tyres and employs a workforce of 1000 people. It achieved domestic sales in excess of Rs. 7 billion in 2012-13 and exports of Rs. 3 billion, and is the market leader in Sri Lanka for commercial vehicle tyres, radials and three-wheeler tyres.
CEAT is a global tyre brand present in 110 countries and now headquartered in India. The brand name is an acronym that stands for Cavi Electrici Affini Torino, or Electrical Cables and Allied Products of Turin, whose origins date back to 1924 in Italy.
