Ceylon Chamber facilitates SL’s representation at India Summit 2014

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce led a 12 member delegation to the just concluded India Summit 2014 of the World Economic Forum, which comprises both public and private sector officials.
The delegates included Senior Minister for International Monetary Cooperation and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Deputy Minister of Investment Promotion Faizer Mustapha and Central Bank of Sri Lanka Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal.
The private sector was represented by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Lion Brewery, CIC, Sunshine Holdings, MTD Walkers, KPMG, Carson Cumberbatch and AG International (AGXIntl).
At the request of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in April 2014, the World Economic Forum allocated three panelist slots for Sri Lanka at the summit.
Dr. Amunugama was on the panel which discussed the topic of ‘Investing in a Cleaner India’, whilst Governor Nivard Cabraal was featured as a panelist on the session, ‘Inclusive Finance: From Paper to Action’, Deputy Minister Faizer Mustapha was a panelist in a session held under the title of ‘Free to Travel’ discussing the proposed facilitation of Visa on Arrival by India.
Sri Lanka’s system of electronic visa application received high praise from the participants from many vountries at the session and was identified as the ‘success story’ to be adopted by India.
Under the theme ‘Redefining Public-Private Cooperation for a New Beginning’ the Summit convened against the backdrop of significant economic growth and progress in reducing poverty in most parts of India and was attended by participants from over 45 countries.
A new feature of the WEF is The Global Shapers Community, which is a network of hubs developed and led by young people who are exceptional in their potential, their achievements and their drive to make a contribution to their communities and two young representatives from Sri Lanka participated at the India Summit 2014. WEF is currently on a recruitment drive of more young leaders from Sri Lanka.
