Ceylon Planters’ Society clarifies

Ceylon Planters’ Society Secretary General has sent the following clarification in reference to the article titled ‘Premier salutes ‘Outstanding Service’ to Tea Industry’ in the Daily FT of 26 September.

We wish to thank you for highlighting the meeting but would appreciate very much if the following corrections are effected at the earliest.

a) Neville F.G.P. Athukorala was not a former Chairman of the CeylonPlanters’ Association but was a former Chairman of the Ceylon Planters’Society.

b)Athukorala received the award for outstanding service to the CeylonPlanters’ Society and not the tea industry.

c)The comments attributed to Athukorala at the bottom of the article were notmade at the meeting at which the Prime Minister was present. He may have spoken to your correspondent separately.
