Hot on the heels of private sector entering the passenger railway arena by deploying luxury carriages, the Government Railway is following suit by upgrading its fleet of observation booths.

Official sources said Sri Lanka Railway has begun sprucing up its portfolio of observation saloons and the first of the upgraded carriage is ready to steam ahead in the popular Colombo-Kandy route.

“We have 10 Observation saloons which are in running condition and after upgrading, these will be introduced to several routes. Some of the new facilities include comfortable chairs, curtains, fans, carpeted floors, upgraded bathrooms etc,” officials added.
