CIC Holdings PLC (CIC) a leading blue chip in Sri Lanka recently signed on as the Principal Sponsor for the Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award (TOYP) 2013 for the third consecutive year. The TOYP awards are an annual event organised by the Junior Chamber International Sri Lanka. This year’s TOYP awards will be held September2013. CIC Holdings PLC Managing Director/CEO Samantha Ranatunga commenting on the partnership said: “We are delighted to be the driving force behind the 2013 TOYP awards for the third consecutive year. As well as nurturing potential capability, we at CIC strongly encourage commending young talent who have created their own benchmarks and surpassed in their respective fields. ‘Be Inspired’ is the chosen theme for this year’s TOYP awards which CIC firmly champions by inspiring and honing people that inspire. CIC Holdings, as the principal sponsor for the awards, encourage creativity in all our work and therefore are wholly in consent with the TOYP Award and its chosen theme for this year. CIC believes that true inspiration is when young people living in the rural and semi rural communities of Sri Lanka are emboldened through economic and educational empowerment. It is indeed an honour for CIC to recognise the achievements of Ten Outstanding Young Persons, at national level by being part of the JCI TOYP Awards 2013.” Launched in 1980 the TOYP is an international award ceremony that recognises the talent and achievement of young individuals between the age of 18 and 40. The Sri Lankan chapter of the award ceremony has recognised individuals across different paths of life be it in the field of agriculture, sports, politics or entrepreneurship. CIC Holdings has empowered young individuals by developing their skills in areas such as farming and technology. Chief among these is the ‘The Shoora Goviya’ television show, organised by CIC to recognise the best farmers, via a competition held islandwide. This has been instrumental to a large extent to raise the social status of farming as a prestigious vocation. CIC is also working through their Rural Humanity Foundation that operates the ‘Nawagoviya website,’ dedicated to developing the knowledge of young farmers through information technology.
