CIC Holdings principle sponsor for Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award 2012

CIC Holdings PLC (CIC) a leading blue chip in Sri Lanka recently signed on as the Principal sponsor for the Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award (TOYP) 2012 for the second consecutive year. The TOYP awards are an annual event organised by the Junior Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka. This year’s TOYP awards will be held on 19 September at Water’s Edge.

CIC has always been committed to uplifting the lives of young people, especially those living in the rural and semi rural communities of Sri Lanka, through education and economic empowerment. By being part of the JCI TOYP Awards 2012, CIC is honoured, to salute and celebrate the achievements of Ten Outstanding Young Persons, at national level.”

Launched in 1980 the TOYP is an international award ceremony that recognises the talent and achievement of young individuals between the age of 18 and 40. The Sri Lankans chapter of the award ceremony has recognised individuals across different paths of life be it in the field of agriculture, sports persons, politics or entrepreneurship. Over the years JIC TOYP has had the fortune of being associated with high profile individuals such as Wasantha Dukgannarala, Kishu Gomes, Senaka Senanayake, Mahela Jayawardena and Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishard Bathiudeen.

CIC Holdings has empowered young individuals by developing their skills in areas such as farming and technology. Chief among these is the ‘The Shoora Goviya’ television show, organised by CIC to recognise the best farmers, via a competition held island wide. This has been instrumental to a large extent to raise the social status of farming as a prestigious vocation. CIC is also working through their Rural Humanity Foundation that operates the Nawagoviya website, dedicated to developing the knowledge of young farmers through information technology.
