CIC Holdings PLC, in association with Orel Manufacturing and Hybrid Technologies, has announced the launch of a new air purifying CFL bulb that saves energy as well as sanitises, purifies and deodorises air, offering the public a simple, safe and cost effective solution to continually breathe fresh, clean air without the use of harmful chemicals.

Branded the CIC Wonder Bulb, this latest addition to the CIC Home Care product portfolio sanitises air by killing micro organisms present in the air without the use of any harmful sanitisers. The innovative coating on the bulb not only kills germs, but also destroys any odors present in the air.

CIC Holdings Plc Chairman B.R.L. Fernando said: “We are proud to launch this one-of-a-kind nano technology bulb together with our business partners. The public can look forward to many more revolutionary products such as this from CIC in the future.”

Speaking at the launch CIC Holdings Plc Managing Director and CEO Samantha Ranatunga said: “We are very happy and proud to have introduced another first to Sri Lanka with the launch of the CIC Air Purifying Wonder Bulb. Our Home Care division was established to raise the living standards of the community through providing sustainable living options and we are confident that the introduction of this product will contribute towards our goal.”

In his address, Manju Gunawardana, Chief Scientist, Hybrid Technologies, said: “The US Environmental Protection Agency states that indoor air is up to 10 times more polluted than outdoor air. Indoor air pollution is caused by volatile organic compounds such as formaldehyde, styrene and toluene being released from various household products, appliances and equipment and microorganism such as bacteria and viruses. The nano photocatalytic technology used in this product will neutralise poisonous chemicals into non harmful gaseous compound such as nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen.”

The CIC Wonder Bulb is also ideal for victims of allergies as it also destroys air borne allergens and irritants such as pollen, fungal pores, and irritation coursing bacteria while also reducing pollution and carbon emissions to fight global warming. It also neutralises harmful chemicals such as benzene and phthalates, which tend to be emitted from air fresheners, scented gels and aerosols, which have been linked to breathing difficulties.

The bulb is ideal for use in places with persistent odours and is a healthier alternative to harmful chemical based deodorisers. A further unique feature of the CIC Wonder bulb is that germs cannot become immune to it as its sanitising power is much stronger than that of conventional chemical based disinfectants.

The bulb has a lifetime of 8000 hours and operates on a voltage range between 170V – 250V. The bulb is available in wattage of 9W, 15W and 20W with a 9W bulb purifying up to 60 Sqft, a 15W bulb up to 120 Sqft and a 20W bulb up to 150 Sqft. The bulb retains all features of a standard CFL bulb but has been manufactured using nanotechnology to purify air.
