CILT, Moratuwa Uni. to host pesentation by Prof. Richard de Neufville on 6 February

The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport of Sri Lanka (CILT) in conjunction with the University of Moratuwa will host an evening presentation by Prof. Richard de Neufville, Professor of Engineering Systems and Civil Environmental Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), on ‘Planning, Design & Management for Airports and the Airline Industry – to deal effectively with the on-going market turmoil’ on 6 February 2014. The presentation, scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Hilton Colombo Residencies, will be graced by Ministry of Civil Aviation Secretary Dr. T.R.C. Ruberu and will be attended by aviation industry leaders and practitioners in the public and private sectors, academia and CILT members. The primary sponsor for the evening is Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited (AASL) with SriLankan Airlines and Cinnamon Air also supporting the event with sponsorship. CILT Sri Lanka is also grateful to AASL and its Chairman Prasanna Wickramasuriya, for coming in as main sponsors of the evening and to SriLankan Airlines and Cinnamon Air for supporting the event.” Known worldwide Dr. de Neufville is known worldwide for his applications in Airport Systems Planning, Design, and Management. He has been associated with major airport projects in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia – as well as others in Africa and Latin America. He is also particularly known for innovations in engineering education. He was the Founding Chairman of the MIT Technology and Policy Program and author of six major texts on systems analysis in engineering. At present he is part of the MIT faculty team developing the new Singapore University of Technology and Design that features a holistic education centred on technological design. His work has been recognised by Guggenheim and Fulbright Fellowships, the NATO Systems Science Prize; the Sizer Award for the Most Significant Contribution to MIT Education, the Martore and MIT Effective Teaching Awards, and the US Federal Aviation Award for Excellence in Teaching. The French Government made him a Chevalier des Palmes Académiques. The Delft University of Technology award him with an honorary Doctor of Philosophy. He earned a Ph.D. from MIT in 1965 and then served as a first White House Fellow for President Lyndon Johnson. He did his military service in the Army Corps of Engineers as an Airborne Ranger officer.
