Safety and security in the hospitality industry is of paramount importance for both travellers and employees alike. The international tourism industry must prepare itself to respond to internal and external hazards such as the spread of diseases, natural disasters and terrorist attacks. Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo in its continued efforts to remain in the forefront of the hospitality industry has thus developed and implemented a highly comprehensive Emergency Response Plan (ERP) with the assistance of Damith Kurunduhewa, a renowned Corporate Risk and ERP specialist. The ERP addresses over 25 critical emergency scenarios requiring the attention and readiness of all staff at the hotel. Furthermore, the process of developing an ERP also ensured that Quick Response Teams (QRTs) were defined and nominees made amongst staff from each shift in any given day. The draft ERP was reviewed by the management of the hotel and thoroughly evaluated by Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo General Manager Denis Gruhier. A complete ERP operating manual which includes practical inputs from all stakeholders was consequently submitted to all members of the management. The combined efforts of the management, the hotels associates and the external expertise extended, has been instrumental in allowing Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo to develop a benchmark for ERP in the hospitality industry.
