CMA qualification valid for Govt. jobs

After years of efforts by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA), the Government has finally decided to recognise the CMA qualification for government jobs, the Finance Minister said yesterday. 

Minister Ravi Karunanayake said that within the next few months the Government would ensure that due recognition to the CMA qualification would be considered in public sector recruitments. 

“I have invited the institution to come to my ministry next week to discuss how we can facilitate CMA members to be absorbed into the public sector,” he added.

The minister said that the contribution of CMA Sri Lanka to the economic advancement of the country had been recognised by the Government. 

Despite Cabinet approval to recognise the CMA qualification for government jobs, it was not implemented for the past two years and the institute highlighted this to the minister during the CMA Founder’s Day oration held last month.  CMA Sri Lanka Founder Chairman Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala, at the Founder’s Day oration, pointed out that the non-implementation of the Cabinet decision was a huge drawback in building a knowledge-based economy and was a grave injustice to the poor students of the country, while students who had foreign qualifications were being recognised.
