The Colombo Municipal Council passed a resolution yesterday, calling for the revision of a cadre report that sought to slash the number of CMC workers from 12,158 to 8600, Mayor of Colombo, A.J.M. Muzammil told Daily FT.

The resolution moved that the CMC could not accept the number of employees prescribed by the report, which CMC officials said was compiled by a Cadre Commission.

CMC workers protested against the new cadre report at noon yesterday, saying it would slash jobs, change designations and cut pay. The new cadre system was to be implemented on 1 January but has been stalled.

The Mayor had summoned a special meeting of the Council to discuss the matter today.
