CNCI congratulates new ministers, deputies and state ministers

The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) has extended warm congratulations to all new ministers, deputy ministers and state ministers with best wishes for success in their dedication to serve the nation.  

The CNCI, being the premier industrial chamber in the country, optimistically expects the future will be opportune for development and growth in the industrial sector. CNCI Chairman Gamini Gunasekera mentioned that the country’s industry is facing undue challenges in the face of dumping, under invoicing, weaknesses in the Free Trade Agreements and so on. The effects could have been minimised with the imposition of CESS taxes for imports, but to a complete halt, it needs law enactment and enforcement in a manner that the local industrialists are safeguarded.  

When the larger industries are shaken by uncontrollable competition the end result will be to paralyse the SMEs who contribute over 50% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) since they obtain their raw material and technical support from the larger manufacturers in the industry.  He believes that the Anti-dumping Act will be passed by the Parliament shortly.

Gunasekera further added that able leadership of the newly appointed ministers, deputy ministers and state ministers will certainly pave avenues for the Sri Lankan industries to move unhindered towards the country’s prosperity by reasonably protecting the local industrialists and assisting them to fly high.
