The pioneer industry chamber in Sri Lanka, the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI), held their 51st AGM at the Taj Samudra, Colombo last week. The highlight at the event was that the incumbent Chairman Preethi Jayawardena was re-elected for the second consecutive year as the Chairman of the CNCI.
The Chief Guest at the occasion was Anura Siriwardena, the Secretary to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, who was later elected as the Honorary Patron of the CNCI. Well-known industrialist and past Chairman of the CNCI, Lal de Mel, was also elected as a Honorary Patron. Jayawardena, a renowned industrialist, financial specialist and MD/CEO of Chemanex PLC, highlighted the trends in global trade and the socio-political and economic scenarios that are shaping the world today. He also touched on the significant growth achieved in Sri Lanka within a very short period of time, especially after the eradication of terrorism and social unrest.
